Kick-Start Your Summer Regimen
Spring has sprung and summer is almost here! This is a wonderful time of year here on the gulf coast, full of fun and exciting activities. From boating to beaching everyone will be spending lots of time outside creating lasting memories. One memory no one wants to create is the dreaded sun burn and later, the visible sun damage, wrinkling, and brown discoloration that will be left behind. There are several ways to protect your skin in order to have a beautiful complexion and healthy glow all year round. Kick-start your skin care regimen and get prepared for summer!
The most important product to have and use all year is sunscreen. This is by far the most vital component of any successful skin care regimen. Sunscreen should contain zinc and have an SPF number of 30 or higher. It is important to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, especially when spending long hours outdoors, swimming, or sweating. Our Clear Medspa carries a variety of sunscreens, including creams, sprays and powder. We even have sunscreen designed specifically for people with sensitive skin. It is also important to wear protective clothing when outdoors. Wide brim hats, long sleeve shirts, and sunglasses are an easy, convenient way to cover and protect your skin.
Another great product to add to your regimen is a topical lightener to help prevent and fade brown pigment or discoloration. SkinMedica Lytera 2.0 and Obagi Clear are great options and will result in a brighter and more even skin tone.
Lastly, consider scheduling a facial to help exfoliate and hydrate your sun-drenched skin. A Hydrafacial is a treatment that infuses long-lasting serums to leave your skin hydrated, refreshed, and glowing. You can repeat the Hydrafacial every 4 weeks and with regular treatments, you will see improvement in fine lines, brown spots, acne, and pore size. There is no downtime and no need for sun avoidance making this an ideal treatment for summer!
Make this summer an unforgettable one, but not at the cost of your skin. Call today or stop by our Clear Medspa for a complimentary skin care consultation.
Melanoma Awareness
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States with melanoma being one of the most dangerous forms of skin cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates about 87,110 new melanomas will be diagnosed in 2017 and about 9,730 people are expected to die of melanoma this year in the United States.
Melanoma is a cancer of the cells that produce our skin’s pigment or color. It develops when those cells begin to change and replicate uncontrollably.
There are several risk factors that can make a person more likely to develop melanoma. Exposure to ultraviolet rays is one major risk factor, and these UV rays may be from the sun or from other UV sources such as tanning beds. Another risk factor is your skin type – if you have red or blond hair, green or blue eyes, and fair skin, your risk for developing melanoma is higher. Lastly, your risk of melanoma is higher if one or more of your first-degree relatives (parents, brothers, sisters, or children) has had melanoma. Around 10% of all people with melanoma have a family history of the disease.
The good news is you can take action to protect yourself and your family from developing melanoma, or catch it early resulting in a better prognosis. If melanoma is recognized and treated early it is often curable.
Daily use of sunscreen containing Zinc and SPF 30 or higher is an important step in prevention. Wearing protective clothing like wide-brimmed hats and long sleeve shirts will also protect your skin from the sun. When outdoors, seek shade, especially during midday hours. Regular skin exams by your dermatologist and checking your own skin frequently can help find skin cancers early when they are easiest to treat. Learning the general appearance of your moles and freckles can also help you notice any changes that may occur and then quickly bring those to the attention of your dermatologist.
Be smart about your skin and sun and stay proactive about skin cancer. Call today to schedule your skin exam and stop by Clear MedSpa to find the right sunscreen for you and your family! All sunscreens are 20% off the entire month of May! 251-928-3844

Microneedling
Medical microneedling is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves thousands of micro-injuries to initiate the body’s wound healing process. The body begins to break down damaged tissue and produce healthy new cells. These cells repair and remodel the injured tissue, producing healthy dermal tissue like collagen and elastin. Newly formed collagen lends support and structure to the skin to help the signs of aging, sun damage, and acne scars. Proper cell nutrition during the remodeling process is important for optimal results. Skinfuse is formulated specifically for microneedling and is a great option to pair with the procedure. This topical system delivers essential nutrients into the skin cells to further enhance the microneedling results and experience.
Haley Dermatology Clear Med Spa now offers Microneedling. This procedure is safe for all skin types, is non-invasive, and has little to no downtime. Schedule an appointment today! 251-928-2310

Clear Up Summer Damage
Summer is coming to an end and now is a great time to clear up summer damage. Topical products are a great way to get skin healthy and glowing. Obagi Nu-Derm system offers all of the products needed to help with pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, skin tightening, and healthier skin overall. The system includes the following products:
Gentle Cleanser or Foaming Gel: The Gentle Cleanser is great for normal to dry skin and the Foaming Gel is tailored for more normal to oily skin. These cleansers remove impurities, oil, and makeup leaving the skin clean and fresh. Use twice daily.
Toner: Toner helps to balance the skin’s natural pH which allows immediate application of the next product without having to wait. Use twice daily.
Clear: Clear is a prescription skin bleaching and corrector cream containing 4% Hydroquinone. This topical treatment will fade brown spots and uneven pigmentation on the surface of the skin. Use twice daily.
Exfoderm Forte: Exfoderm Forte is a lotion that contains glycolic acid. This helps to smooth the skin leaving it brighter, lighter, and tighter. Use in the AM.
Blender: Blender is another skin lightener containing specialized ingredients called saponins. The saponins bind the Hydroquinone to the Retin-A and pull it deeper into the skin to fight the pigment under the dermis that has yet made it to the surface. Use in the PM.
Hydrate: Hydrate is a facial moisturizer that contains Hydromanil, which has been clinically proven to improve moisture content of the skin. This moisturizer offers 8 hours of hydration. If the skin is extremely dry, Hydrate Luxe is a great option offering the same benefits as Hydrate but also includes peptides and a thicker base. Use as Needed.
Tretinoin cream (Retin-A): Tretinoin is a great addition to the Nu-Derm system. This Vitamin A derivative helps increase collagen in the dermis improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Tretinoin cream comes in three different strengths depending on skin type and can be purchased separately.
Obagi Nu-Derm system kits are 20% off until the end of the month!! Don’t miss out on this great special!!!
Keep Your Hands Youthful
Brown spots, skin laxity, and texture changes are among some of the common complaints we hear about the hands. Here are some great treatment options to get your hands more youthful appearing.
Our hands are exposed to the sun more often then most people realize. Protecting them with sunscreen is the first step in keeping your hands looking youthful as well as preventing skin cancer.
There are several other treatments for the hands to help fade brown spots and help with loose skin. Lumiquin is a great topical for the hands. Lumiquin enhances skin’s moisture level making hands look smoother, brighter, and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
One treatment option most people are un aware about is filler. Radiesse is made of tiny spheres that are injected into the skin within a gel suspension. This gel dissipates as your body’s own collagen laces around the spheres, creating a long-lasting correction and smoothing. Radiesse for the hands is a great way to give back volume that has been lost.
Take advantage of our monthly August specials for the hands! Radiesse for the hands is $500 ($100 savings), IPL for the hands 10% off plus a FREE Lumiquin, and all hand products 20% off!
