Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are another great option for treating wrinkles and hollow areas associated with facial aging. There are many different types of dermal fillers on the market today. Our Physicians can consult with you on the best choice for your skin needs.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers:

Hyaluronic acid is a basic element in connective skin tissue. It has a hydrophilic quality, meaning it has the ability to draw and hold water. Unfortunately, hyaluronic acid in the skin, like collagen, diminishes as we age. Hyaluronic acid fillers replace lost volume to give you a natural youthful appearance. Hyaluronic acid fillers are characterized by softness and can be used in any facial area without giving a harsh look. Also, Hyaluronic acid fillers are a great beginner filler for someone who has never had injectable filler before because they are completely reversable by injecting hyaluronidase enzyme. Our board certified dermatologists will help you decide which hyaluronic acid filler is right for you.

Other Fillers:

Radiesse:

Radiesse is composed of tiny microspheres, made of calcium hydroxylapatite, in a gel carrier. It provides a scaffolding into which your body’s own collagen can grow. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a natural constituent of bone so you will not need allergy testing. The tiny spheres are injected into the skin within a gel suspension. This gel dissipates as your body’s own collagen laces around the spheres, creating a long-lasting correction and smoothing. Radiesse is used to add volume to nasolabial folds, temples, marionette lines, deep hollows and is commonly used for facial reshaping. It is our favorite choice for hand rejuvenation also. It is not recommended for lip augmentation. Radiesse can last a year or more.

Sculptra Aesthetic:

Sculptra Aesthetic is composed of Poly-L Lactic Acid(PLLA), an FDA-approved, biocompatible, biodegradable material.  Sculptra is not a wrinkle filler, but a bio activator or “volumizer”. It works by stimulating the body to produce new collagen at the sites of injection, thereby replacing lost volume and contours to restore a fuller, more youthful appearance. Sculptra does not give results immediately. There is a time factor involved since the true volume effect is created by your own collagen, not the product itself. This collagen replenishment takes place over a period of several months. Patients usually receive 2-4 injection sessions over a period of months to accomplish optimum re-volumization. Results can last for two years or longer. Common areas of treatment are smiles lines, cheekbones, marionette lines, jaw line, and temple hollows.  One of our “secrets” is the use of Sculptra in the chest area to minimize the creases that form with age.

Bellafill:

Bellafill is also a bio-activator.  It is composed of two substances, collagen and PMMA.  The collagen in Bellafill provides immediate volume and lift while the PMMA microspheres remain in place and create a matrix that supports collagen production in your skin for lasting improvement. So, if you have tried other filler but would like one that lasts longer, Bellafill is a good choice.  Studies show improvement up to 5 years.  A skin test is needed prior to treatment to ensure you are not allergic to the collagen component.
